A notebook that keeps the moment.

Save anything without deciding where it belongs. Musing quietly keeps the context, then brings the note back the way you remember it.

A thought, voice memo, photo, receipt, link, or place — captured from phone, Mac, or wrist.

1. Capture anything

Type, speak, snap, share, or dictate from Apple Watch. On Mac, Control-Option-Command-N writes or Asks from any app — no Accessibility permission. The menu bar still captures; Reading Room is for asking and browsing. Photos are read on your device, and “remind me Tuesday at 9” becomes a real Apple Reminder linked to the note.

2. The moment stays with it

Place, weather, time of day, and the kind of place settle into the margin. There are no tags to name, folders to choose, or filing system to maintain.

“where did I have that amazing pasta?”
FROM YOUR NOTES
That was the cacio e pepe at Daisies in Logan Square — you wrote about it on a rainy Thursday in May and said you'd order it again.

3. Ask for it later

Ask a question or describe the moment. Musing searches and answers from your own notes with Apple Intelligence — on-device by default, even in airplane mode.

Write it once. Ask for it later. No filing required.

Memory on-device

Notes that return when you do.

Your memories shouldn't stay buried in a chronological feed. Musing quietly connects place and time on your device to resurface what you wrote right when it feels relevant.

PLACE RECALL

Return to where you wrote

When you walk back into a café, park, bookstore, or winery, Musing brings your previous visit's note to the Home screen. Sensitive venues like hospitals and places of worship stay quiet and unnamed.

Bring your own AI service

Your key. Your provider. Your costs.

Pro Mode is optional and off by default. Connect your own API key for two things you tap — richer Ask from your matching notes, and cited web search when your notes are not enough. Capture, recall, and everyday search stay on your device.

Ask your notes

Enhanced search across your library

Musing finds the relevant notes on-device, then your provider composes a grounded answer with citations — richer than Apple Intelligence alone.

Web search

Cited lookups when notes fall short

From Ask or a note, search the web with your key. Sources come back as tappable links beside the answer.

Questions, answered

What to know before you begin.

What is Musing?

A private notes app for iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch. Capture text, voice, photos, links, and places, then retrieve them by asking or let them return on place visits and calendar anniversaries.

How do Place Recall and Time Recall work?

Place Recall uses geofenced regions on your device to notice when you return to a place you've previously written about. Time Recall checks calendar anniversaries (1, 2, 3+ years ago) and seasonal milestones. Everything is computed 100% on-device with quiet morning delivery (at most twice a week), and sensitive locations like hospitals are automatically suppressed.

Does Musing work on Apple Watch?

Yes. Musing includes a native Apple Watch app. You can dictate thoughts or capture ideas directly from your wrist with Watch complications, and notes sync instantly to your iPhone and Mac via your private iCloud.

Do I need folders or tags?

No. Musing keeps useful context automatically, so you can remember a note by its words, place, weather, time, or type without maintaining a filing system.

Is Musing really free?

Yes. There are no ads, accounts, subscriptions, credits, or paid unlock packs.

Does anything leave my device?

By default, no. Note text, photos, and queries stay on-device; Ask and understanding use Apple Intelligence where available. Your private iCloud can sync notes between your devices. Weather uses Apple WeatherKit, and shared links fetch a preview from the website you save. The only optional exception is Pro Mode — enhanced Ask and cited web search on your own key — below.

What is Pro Mode?

Bring your own AI service. Turn on Pro Mode, paste your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key, and use it for two things you tap: richer Ask answers from your matching notes, and cited web search when your notes are not enough — from Ask, from a note, or while writing. You choose the provider and control its costs. Off by default; nothing is sold inside Musing.

Does it work on Mac and Apple Watch?

Yes. Musing is native on iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch, with your notes synced through your private iCloud when enabled. On Mac, Control-Option-Command-N writes or Asks from any app — no Accessibility permission. The menu bar still captures; Reading Room is for asking and browsing.

Do I need Apple Intelligence?

Apple Intelligence powers Ask, understanding, and semantic recall. Notes, Place Recall, Time Recall, and standard text search remain available without it.
